LovelyPDF's PDF editor lets you add text, draw freehand, highlight areas, and permanently redact sensitive content — all inside your browser with no upload required. Each page of your PDF renders as an editable canvas. Changes are applied when you click Download; nothing is sent to any server at any point in the process.
Are redactions permanent?
Yes. Redaction boxes are burned into the PDF as solid filled rectangles when you download. The content underneath cannot be extracted, selected, or recovered from the downloaded file.
Will editing reduce the PDF quality?
No — by default, annotations (shapes, text, lines) are added as vector objects on top of the original page content. The original text, fonts, and images are preserved exactly. Only if you enable "Flatten to image" will the page be rasterised.
Can I undo edits before downloading?
Yes. All edits exist only as a canvas overlay until you click Download. Use the Undo button or the × on each text box to remove individual annotations, or Clear Page to start fresh.
Does the editor work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. The editor renders each page as a canvas regardless of whether the PDF contains real text or scanned images. All tools work identically on scanned and digital PDFs.
Is my document safe to edit here?
Yes. Your PDF is loaded into your browser's memory and never transmitted to any server. LovelyPDF does not have access to your document contents at any stage. Editing, rendering, and download all happen locally on your device.
Your document never leaves your browser. Every annotation, text box, and redaction box is applied using pdf-lib inside your device's memory. No file is uploaded to any server, no copy is retained after you close the tab, and no one else has access to your document's content at any point during the editing process. This matters especially for legal documents, contracts, and medical records.
No account is needed and there is no per-page limit. Whether you are adding a single signature line to a one-page letter or redacting sensitive information across a 100-page report, the full editor is available with no registration, no daily quota, and no watermark on the downloaded file.
The editor works on any device — mouse on desktop, stylus on a Surface, or touch on an Android tablet. The canvas responds to all input methods, making it practical for both office desktops and mobile use without installing any app or plugin.
LovelyPDF adds annotations on top of existing content; it does not modify the original text layer. To replace existing text, place a white-filled rectangle over the original text using the Shape tool, then add a new text box on top with the correct wording. This produces a visually clean result while preserving the underlying document structure.
Yes — redaction boxes are drawn as solid filled rectangles directly onto each page when you click Download. The content underneath cannot be extracted, selected, or revealed by any standard PDF reader. This is different from simply placing a black image on top — the redaction is embedded at the vector level and survives copy-paste, text search, and extraction attempts.
Yes. All edits exist only as a canvas overlay until you click Download. Use the Undo button in the toolbar to step back through recent actions, click the × on individual text boxes or shapes to remove them, or use Clear Page to remove all annotations from the current page and start again. Once you click Download, changes are permanent in the output file.
Yes — the editor renders each page as a canvas regardless of whether the PDF contains a real text layer or scanned page images. All tools work identically on scanned and digital PDFs. For redacting sensitive data in scanned documents — such as Aadhaar numbers visible in a photographed ID — the Redact tool covers the area completely. For automatic pattern-based redaction of Aadhaar, PAN, and phone numbers, use the Redact by Pattern tool instead.
